Dawn of the Outdoor Garden Times ♥

Last week I dug a small bed, crafted a pallet garden and planted a few cooler weather plants. I am excited to watch the new life grow. I'm a little late starting my big plot though, I'm digging away slowly by hand. This year I am only planting potatoes and peas in the my large backyard plot and perhaps a row of beans. They grow the best in our native soil and the animals seem to leave those 3 crops alone. I'm keeping the plants that I've noticed get eat more frequently closer to the house in hopes of deterring some of the animals.

I read a neat little trick in Organic Gardening Magazine about herding slugs away from your crops with tiny compost piles. I might give that a try this year.
